Labor Day gatherings are always bitter sweet. They mark the end of those lazy days of summer and the beginning of getting “back to business.” Back to school, back to “regular” work hours, regular clothes and closed toe shoes–but also the promise of crisp fall afternoons, leaves changing color and (of course) Halloween is coming…
But, when going to a party, you know my POV on bringing something that messes with the menu (if not see this prior post) so for Labor Day you want to bring a gift that is thoughtful, possibly seasonal and in keeping with your host and your personality. Here are my ideas for consideration. Happy Labor Day and be safe!
Coasters: No matter what the season, no one wants rings on their table, right? Your host or hostess will appreciate your consideration of their furniture and these suggestions cover a variety of themes and interests from the natural to polished to playful. Personally I can’t wait to get my hands on the Scrabble ones…
Agate Coasters ($64, Uncommon Goods)
Personalized Silver Plated Coaster Set ($19.99, ON SALE, Things Remembered)
Bottle Top Coasters ($19.99, Perpetual Kid)
Thomas Paul Scrimshaw Melamine Coaster Set, Set of 4 ($18, Amazon)
Scrabble Coasters ($20, Spoon Sisters)
Tea Set: I love the idea of tea for Labor Day as its the perfect transitional beverage– iced for end of summer and warm for early fall (put that in the card even)–and again these sets are fun and functional, there’s even one that works for both coffee and tea. Oh, and if you’re feeling extra generous, get some tea bags or loose tea to go with it.
Primula glass Primula Flowering Tea Gift Set– 40oz ($29.99)
35-oz. Coffee & Tea Harmony Teapot by BonJour ($35.95, Cooking)
Emma Monogrammed Tea Pot ($49, Pottery Barn)
Eiffel Tower Tea For One ($45, ON SALE, Spoon Sisters)
Liquid Brunch: If your host is going to have had a long night, help them fight a likely hangover with one of these next-day cures. Just make sure the card (or your voice over when you hand it to them) makes it clear it’s not meant for the party.
Bloody Mary Mix (Bloody’s By Buzz, $9.95 a bottle)
McClure’s Spicy Bloody Mary Mix ($9.99 for 32oz, Amazon)
Bellini ($12.29, Wine.com)
Hair Of The Dog Energy Drink -Case of 24 ($7.01, Amazon)
Silly But Useful: So I found some other adorable stuff that I had to share that was, well… silly but useful…and only right if you are visiting someone obsessed with Goodfellas, Star Wars, was a foodie, or a Martha Stewart wanna-be, but you never know.
Mug Shots Famous Gangster Shot Glasses ($16.99, Always Fits)
R2-D2 Ice Tray ($10.99, Perpetual Kid)
Soapsicles ($8.95, Spoon Sisters)
Table Talk Teaspoon Shaped Conversation Starters ($7.95, Spoon Sisters)
